JONESBORO — Three residents have qualified to run for Jonesboro City Council and three for state House District 75.
Winners of the March 21 special election will fill the unexpired terms of Donya Sartor and Pat Sebo and former Rep. Mike Glanton.
Sebo and Sartor are former council members who resigned their seats to run for mayor, which will also be decided on March 21.
Arlene Charles and Alfred Dixon are running for Sartor’s seat, which expires on Dec. 21, 2023.
Don Dixon is seeking to fill Sebo’s term ending on Dec. 31, 2025. The mayoral election will fill the unexpired term of Joy Day through December 2023.
Only residents living within the Jonesboro city limits are eligible to vote for mayor and council in the special election.
Democrats Herman Andrews, Eric Bell and Republican Della Ashley are running for Glanton’s seat in the Georgia House of Representatives District 75. Glanton announced his resignation from the position last month due to health reasons.
In addition, Clayton residents will also select a sheriff to fill the remaining term for former sheriff Victor Hill through Dec. 31, 2024. The community will decide whether to extend Clayton County schools’ Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
Residents not already registered have until Feb. 21 to do so. To check your status, www.mvp.sos.ga.gov.
