RIVERDALE — Throughout October, Southern Regional Medical Center is offering mammograms at reduced pricing in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Women with high deductibles or without insurance are able to receive a 2D/screening mammogram for $99 or a 3D mammogram (at SRMC’s Advanced Imaging Center at Spivey Station) for $149, including radiologist reading fee.
Early detection with screening mammography is the key to saving lives in the fight against breast cancer.
The American Cancer Society offers guidelines for mammography for women at average risk for breast cancer.
For screening purposes, a woman is considered at average risk if she doesn’t have a personal history of breast cancer, a strong family history of breast cancer, or a genetic mutation known to increase risk of breast cancer and has not had chest radiation therapy before the age of 30.
The mammography recommendations for women at average risk are:
♦ Women between 40 and 44 have the option to start screening with a mammogram every year.
♦ Women 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.
♦ Women 55 and older can switch to a mammogram every other year or can choose to continue yearly mammograms.
Southern Regional Medical Center offers 2D/screening mammograms at SRMC, 11 Upper Riverdale Road SW, Riverdale.
Both 3D mammograms and 2D/screening mammograms are offered at The Advanced Imaging Center at Spivey Station, 7823 Spivey Station Boulevard, Suite 110, Jonesboro.
The Advanced Imaging Center at Spivey Station is also hosting special evening hours for mammograms on Tuesdays (Oct. 3, 17 and 31) and Thursdays (Oct. 12 and 26) until 6:30 p.m.
♦ Southern Regional Imaging Services: Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
