JONESBORO — Clayton County Public Schools is issuing student identification cards this fall.
The cards will be issued to all students in phases beginning with high school students.
As part of the system’s increased security protocols, and as a proactive measure, students will be issued a photo identification card. It is expected that the cards be worn or carried by the student during school hours.
“This utilization of the ID cards will assist in the tracking of students and ensure those entering the building are authorized to do so,” a statement from CCPS read. “Students refusing or failing to adhere to this identification policy will be subject to disciplinary action.”
Students will need their cards not only to enter and exit the school building but they will be required to carry the cards during school hours, educational trips, recreational trips, and all sports events.
“Please ensure that your child comes to school with his/her ID card for all such events,” the CCPS statement read.
Students will be issued one free card. If students lose or misplace their card, it will need to be replaced and will incur a charge. The price for additional cards are $1 for the first replacement and $5 for each additional replacement.
“We understand that changes, particularly ones focused on school safety can be stress-inducing for students,” the school system said in a statement. “As a preemptive measure, students will be informed of the enhanced protocols and requirements, and questions will be answered prior to the rollout of the student identification card.”
